Explained: Why PSG are wearing their away kit against Liverpool?

The Ligue 1 side have chosen to turn out in white for Wednesday's big Champions League match at Parc des Princes

When Paris Saint-Germain takes to the field against Liverpool at Parc des Princes on Wednesday, they will wear their white change kit.

Jurgen Klopp's side will, meanwhile, run out in their traditional red, flipping the usual roles of home and away teams.

PSG has two dedicated European kits this season, both made with the Air Jordan brand, although neither is strictly considered a 'home' or 'away' kit.

During their encounter against the Reds at Anfield, they wore the black 'fourth' kit, though that did not bring them any fortune as they struggled against the Premier League outfit and could have a few complaints about going down 3-2, despite fighting back to level after trailing 2-0.

On Wednesday, however, they have chosen to wear their white change strip at home, hoping that it will bring them a change in fortunes.

There is no need for them to do so, with the black kit offering no clash with that of Liverpool. Having chosen to wear what is their designated third kit, it has forced their opponents into their tradition red due to a clear clash.

It will be the first time that the white kit has made an appearance, with PSG playing exclusively in black in their first four Champions League outings.

Why are PSG wearing Air Jordan?

This is the first season that PSG has teamed up with Air Jordan, having announced the deal in September to become the first professional football club to join up with a brand more renowned for its presence in basketball.

However, the kits that they wear in the Champions League are for European matches only.

When playing domestic games, they can be seen playing in their usual dark blue with red soundwaves down the center. Their change kit for Ligue 1 matches, meanwhile, is a plain white with golden trim, differing slightly from the European version, which is in silver and has a thin bar down the center of the chest.

PSG could suffer from eliminating the Champions League if they lose against Liverpool on Wednesday, while a draw would leave them with a mountain to climb going into the final round of matches next month.

Since losing to the Reds at Anfield, they have bounced back by collecting five points from three matches, although a couple of draws against Napoli mean that they are playing catch up heading into the final two rounds of matches.
