Evil Circle Excessive alcohol consumption can cause long-term genetic mutation that adds substance dependence, suggests an American Rutgers University (New Jersey) study and published in Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.
"We know that many people drink DNA modification in a way that they want more alcohol," says Dipak Professor K. Sarkar, lead author of the research and Director of the Endocrine Program of the Animal Sciences Department. Rutgers University, which mentions the MedicalXpress portal.
"This may explain why alcoholism is a powerful addiction and can lead to new ways of treating or becoming addicted to preventing people at risk," she says.
Rutgers University researchers may eventually identify biomarkers (indicators, such as proteins or genetic modifications), can be used to predict future dependency risks.
