The AMG GT is the fastest production in the Black Series’ Ring

Ladies and gentlemen of the internet, please stay tuned for the fastest production to return to the Nürburgring. At 5pm on November 4, German race driver Maro Engel set up a 6m 43.616s laptop in the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, just over a second behind the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and about four seconds behind the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Mercedes told us that it was “not yet completely dry” for a drive test on a cold day on a track that took full advantage of the Black Series ’adjustable suspension and air. He extended the black front divider to the ‘Race’ position and adjusted the bottom and top blades of the rear wing to the center position.

Meanwhile, the adjustable anti-roll bar was set in the strictest setting, with the front and rear axles marked -3.8 and -3 degrees with the camera respectively, and the suspension of the adjustable coilover dropped 5mm and 3mm on the front / rear of the “ventura enhancer” front diffuser effect ”. “Customers can also take advantage of all these settings and variants,” he says. These customers are useful with a set of keys, of course.

Engel set up a nine-stage traction control system to position six or seven “depending on the track section.” For the black, the black wore Michelin “Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO” tires.

Attempts to set a record for ‘Ring’ laptop are governed by a strict set of rules to keep everyone equal. Vehicles and tires are inspected “in terms of serial production status,” sophisticated timing equipment must be used, and an independent notary must be present to verify that the manufacturers are behaving themselves.

The vehicles are placed in the categories specified by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority – Black is a “sports car” – and registered twice. ‘The one mentioned on the Ring website is for the entire 20,832km circuit. However, manufacturers often refer to the 20.6km circuit times, which Mercedes says has been “the measure of all things” for years. The short return has a different start and finish, so if you think about it, it’s not a return at all.

It is the time of the 20.6 km route we mentioned at the beginning of this article. The Black’s laptop on the 20,832km circuit is 6m 48.047s. It is the record for the fastest “production car” yet to return to the Nürburgring.

But Black isn’t the fastest ‘legal road sports car on the ring’. This honor goes to a Porsche 911 GT2 RS modified by Manthey Racing, which set a time of 6m 40.3 seconds in early 2018 (6.8 for the 20,832km track of 44.749 seconds).
