The autobiographical book of the legendary Bulgarian goalkeeper Georgi Velinov will be published soon. It’s titled “My Story” and was written by former sports journalist Nikolai Alexandrov.
The book, which compiled the story of the famous porter in 328 pages, should be released on December 10 at a price of 18 BGN. In addition to football, “My Stories” tells the unusual life of Johnny, alas, that he has many obstacles in his life.
For five days in a row TOPSPORT will introduce you to parts of the work. Today is the turn of the second half.
On the evening of December 2, 1981, in the sports program of the First Program, at the end of “Around the World and in Bulgaria”, two short reports of football matches were quickly broadcast. The phase of the Soviet Army Cup match against “Chepinets” (Velingrad) showed only a few of the nine goals scored by the army. The practice of those years is completely normal, people weren’t very angry either, but also how did you get that interesting in a match that ended 9: 1? It’s a shame it’s 30 seconds in short black-and-white shots, not a single goal. So there are only a few thousand others at the “People’s Army” station. never a goal by CSKA goalkeeper Georgi Velinov.
“I don’t remember exactly what your goal was. I think it’s four to zero, something like that … The ball is at my foot, I take a few steps from the penalty area, I look at it, no one finds me. ! “Yes, yes, there is no way to give it to you” – I answer. And I don’t know what he did to me, I didn’t even look at whether the “Chepinets” goalkeeper came. A strong jerk – I flew all over the field , I saw my colleague running to his doorstep, but he threw a slap in front of him, jumped over him and jumped – go to the net! Aim! The only one! We made a joke later. “It was in the record book. Only Pantelic and I scored such a goal. But I don’t know, neither I nor the Guinness Book. I didn’t see anything. That goal was still a rarity, the fans told the legends. not at the end of games, losing teams often call on goalkeepers to help with an opponent’s penalty, so when I score a goal I finally feel like it’s my year. ”
A few days later it is the event of the Bulgarian № 1 footballer. Far from the subsequent brilliance that came with these ceremonies in the golden generation of the first half of the 90s. The aforementioned “celebration”, after the awarding of important prizes at a friendly banquet, was held at the cult restaurant on Sector B of the “Vasil Levski” station – “Pri bai Gosho”. The place is next to the editorial office of the newspaper “Start”, which was then the beginning of the survey. For years, it has been like the center of the football community – during Bai Gosho’s tenure, players, coaches, activists, journalists and supporters gather to drink and drink. Everything happens in a friendly atmosphere completely.
Georgi Velinov – “Septemvriysko zname” CSKA goalkeeper became a Bulgarian football player in 1981. Second in the standings remains teammate and friend Georgi Dimitrov – Jackie, third Georgi Slavkov – then the team “Trakia” (Plovdiv). The year of “Three Georgievtsi” has long been one of the best football clubs in Bulgaria. Another thing that is impressive: for the first time in ten years he becomes a winner № 1 CSKA player! The fact is, oddly enough, in the last decade, half the time – considering that the five titles are red-hot – there is no decent representative for them for the top spot. Three second-place finishers in the poll – one for Bozhil Kolev, one – for Tsonyo Vassilev – are really weird, considering that the army is the hegemon of this era. Well, at least in the next few years, really in the next decade, inevitably because of the crazy successes in Europe, things are pretty balanced. “
