This Thursday, the leaders of the teams that make up the National Association of Professional Soccer (ANFP) will define who will assume the presidency from the club council, and the cycle that Arturo Salah headed from January 2016 will be completed.
The entity that integrates and presides over the Federation of Soccer of Chile It comes from complex years after the mandate that Sergio Jadue met between 2011 and 2015, after being accused by the US corruption justice in the FIFA Gate.
To know the proposals of the three candidates, DNA Sports submitted a survey to Jorge Uauy, Sebastián Moreno and Harold Mayne-Nicholls, who submit their proposals for seven key issues for the four years that their term will last.
1) Should Reinaldo Rueda continue in the selection?
Uauy: They asked me quite a lot and, as I said on occasions before the media, I do not know the Rueda project in its entirety. Consequently, at the beginning of my period, it will undoubtedly be one of the first meetings I will have. After that and after meeting Reinaldo, in the professional and the human, the future of the technical direction of the Selection will be decided. Any response today is hasty. I believe in the process but also in the results. We like it or not.
Moreno: We have a development commitment with Reinaldo Rueda and his technical body. In the medium term we have the Copa América. We have to revalidate two championships that we obtained in past editions. And the main objective is to qualify for the Qatar World Cup. Both Reinaldo and his technical staff have the guarantees to develop their work for which they were hired.
Mayne-Nicholls: I am not much in favor interrupting the technical processes. Reinaldo Rueda has already made a fairly exhaustive evaluation of all our players available for the national team and I do not think it appropriate to lose this year of work.
2) What project does for the Juan Pinto Durán Complex?
Uauy: I understand that there is a project underway, which we will have to review in detail. Up to the minute we have not been informed about it. However, I have the absolute conviction that we need a sports complex of the highest level, in any sense, for the Selection, but we will be careful about the resources that are needed. We will not mortgage the sustainability of the ANFP if there are no resources.
Moreno: We plan to develop a first level place where masculine soccer can be coexisted with all of their lower national teams, with women's soccer, adult teaming and the various selections that make up the young female team, also soccer beach and futsal. We look at Pinto Durán as a place where our soccer develops in a comprehensive way.
Mayne-Nicholls: Selections from Chilean soccer with everything they have given the country need a new complex, but before seeing how this is done, there is a feasibility study both economically and the future sustainability of the complex, before deciding if it is done or not it is done.
3) Do you want to keep the tournament long or go back to a short tournament?
Uauy: There is sufficient evidence about all kinds of tournaments to do the corresponding analysis on what is best for Chilean soccer from a sports and economic point of view. The type of tournament we have in the future will depend on what the board of presidents resolves and which is best for the clubs.
Moreno: What is required for the development of football is its stability in the championship system. We recently had a year with this championship system, which was agreed by the council of presidents. By the way, we are in favor of maintaining this system in time, stability is something fundamental, and to be constantly evaluating it with the advice of presidents.
Mayne-Nicholls: The type of tournaments is something that decides and determines the council of presidents, decides nor determines the directory. Everyone knows that I have always liked the long tournaments, but if the council of presidents decides otherwise, we will work with great enthusiasm.
4) How do you intend to promote the Second Professional Division?
Uauy: We have a different and innovative proposal that refers to increasing the youth participation in this division, where it will be privileged that in the second they compete mostly youth. It is also possible to create subsidiaries of First A and First B teams as in the case of the Spanish League.
Moreno: It can not be that the Second Division does not generate income. First you have to worry about the generation of income for the clubs that make up it. In other countries it is constituted as an important seedbed both for clubs and, optionally, for selections. And by the way, it is necessary to equip the clubs with new tools so that they can be perfected and generate different income that allow him to survive in the medium and long term.
Mayne-Nicholls: It needs a profound revision, which can also bring a profound structural change. It does not look like a tournament in which there are so, but so few teams. It is also necessary to seek and enhance all the benefits of participation in the ANFP, and this must have an active participation in some items such as the financing of transfers and the costs involved in developing a party.
5) What project does it have for young soccer, in order to increase the percentage of players participating in smaller selections that reach adulthood?
Uauy: Having better clubs goes hand in hand with increased participation and better training of young people. Thus, such as a virtuous circle, better clubs and more training will lead us to have more competitive youth selections, which will impact on the development of a more powerful adult selection. What is clear is that the rule of Sub 20 does not contribute to empowering young people, because at the end of 21 they are without competition.
Moreno: We have to understand that the core soccer development generator is the clubs. From the young soccer of the clubs they arise selection players. As it is established in our strategic plan, it is necessary to form players with selectable player characteristics from the earliest age, starting from Sub 15 onwards. It is our duty to equip an international player with the characteristics of a selection player and, to that extent, as a group is getting from the earliest age, as in other countries, who work in this way, we will be able to consolidate An important group that in an important percentage is added to a spare part, later to form a solid group in the absolute national selections of the future.
Mayne-Nicholls: That the technicians of those divisions travel through the 32 clubs or the 42 clubs of the ANFP, see on the ground train all the children and according to that they do an evaluation and begin to invite players. That trip and that training view, at least for a week, and intertanto monthly, one or two international matches will be played, so the technician will draw conclusions. And before the championships come together three weeks or a month, and there do a training with those that the technical body has left selected. I think that methodological change is imposed in Chilean football soon.
6) How do you intend to promote women's soccer?
Uauy: We must walk along the route to improve the female football subsidiaries of our clubs, so that the female football league is a reality and is of the utmost importance.
Moreno: You already have a traced path. We have made a lot of progress since 2016 to this date. We have put a strategic plan for the development of women's soccer, both at the level of selections and clubs. We understand that the spearhead for its development is our adult national team and we are going to continue promoting women's soccer at the level of selections, establishing the Sub 15. As far as the league is concerned, we have already prepared for this last two years a very large investment Major for the transfers and lodgings of the different players that make up the competition, in the different clubs.
Mayne-Nicholls: The great project for women's soccer, for us, is to bring the adult World Cup to Chile in 2027. We would have eight years to work and promote all women's soccer. It would be an event of great importance for the country and it would be a great example.
7) Will there be no changes to improve discipline in the Selection? Which ones?
Uauy: Indiscipline is not acceptable. For most of the children of our country, soccer players are examples in their lives, they are subject to admiration. We hope to institute in accordance with the technical bodies minimum compliance measures in this regard.
Moreno: It is a subject that corresponds, by the way, to the coaching body and the coach, since he is the leader of the discipline inside the dressing room. That is a task that the national coach needs to do and, by the way, we are respectful of the decisions taken by the coach.
Mayne-Nicholls: For me discipline is not a subject of rules, it is not a subject of permits, it is not a matter of obligations. Discipline is a matter of commitment and every player and player that reaches any of our selections has to understand that there is a commitment here that is greater, which is the commitment with the whole country. And that commitment is to maintain discipline. He who does not understand it, unfortunately will not be able to integrate the Chilean team.
