Raspberry Pi is a small computer with a credit card size. Raspberry Pi has been immersed in the maker universe through many projects. It's the easiest and most popular way to do it Activate TV on a smart TV Access to the internet for various channels and other services. We will see how we will take a step by step step in the workshop.
Before you start: what will we do?
For this project it will be necessary:
- Raspberry Pi A, it is better to protect the model 3. from shock.
- HDMI TV
- HDMI cable
- At least 4 GB micro SD card.
- Internet connection
- Keyboard and mouse with USB ports
- 2.5 Extend Micro USB Current Adapter.
Although not enough, it is advisable to use the cover to protect the plate against possible bumps and falls. If you have purchased separately, make sure that your model is compatible. It's a good idea to avoid the start by getting Raspberry Pi to get everything you need to get everything you need.
Raspberry Pi: From Institution to Maker Movement
The Raspberry Pi Foundation, a not-for-profit non-profit organization born in 2009, promoted the project Encourage schools to learn computing from affordable to worldwide.
Although small in size, Raspberry Pik allows you to perform basic tasks like any computer on your computer: surfing the internet, spreadsheets, word processors, playing high-definition videos and playing various games.
A look at Raspberry Pi lets us identify the typical elements of a computer: soC, CPU, RAM, audio and video input and output ports, network connectivity, SD storage space (what a hard drive would be), a clock, a power socket, Level peripheral connections …
Like any other computer, it is necessary to connect to incoming and outgoing peripherals in order to interact: screen, mouse and keyboard … Record a Raspberry Pi operating system on the SD card. After connecting to the power, the small computer is already running.
Less than a decade ago, the new models of Raspberry Pi have been modified and updated. The same essence remains: a cheap, compact computer, but advances have improved user experience by adding stronger hardware, more ports and connectivity. For example, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which are useful for Raspberry Pi 3, allow lighter interactions.
The latest model launched on the market is the Raspberry Pi 3 model B + plate with the same price, but the speed and double band Wi-Fi.
Although there are many projects that we can make with Raspberry, the use of 5 things is common:
The first three being the simplest, most common and affordable. Workshop indeed We will convert TV into any new TV Installing LibreELEC.
About distributions: features and installation
We will use it at the workshop Distribution of the code integrating. Now what is Kodi? XBMC (XBox Media Center) is a free application. With Kodia it is possible to convert a computer or a multimedia television and a clear interface.
The code code is free (under GNU / GPL license), Internet users can do it Enter the source code to suit any operating system or device where they need it That's why the Code has Windows and versions of GNU / Linux, MacOS, iOS, Android, Raspberry Pi and almost any other version.
In addition, the Kodi application is completely modular, that is, to adapt and customize our taste. It's not just a single interface, but adds add-ons or add-ons that maximize its usability. Indeed Additives are your strong pointsIt allows us to watch TV channels on the Internet, show weather predictions, listen to the radio, or connect to Plex, SoundCloud or YouTube.
LibreELEC, OpenELEC or OSMC?
Although it can be installed in the Raspbian Code (the distribution that Raspberry Pi makes to the computer), The official distribution of individuals is the easiest and easiest to install Integrated These distributions stand out due to their simplicity and intuition, which is why it is ideal for TV-like devices. We're talking about LibreELEC, OpenELEC and OSMC.
Each one has its strengths, but LibeELEC, OpenELEC bifurcation (veteran) and that Its design, stability and, in general, its support highlights. In free distribution, the key is to seek out strong and powerful communities to provide solutions to possible problems.
In practice, there are multiboot solutions that enable multiple operating systems (distributions) simultaneously, but at the time of truth It is more convenient to use different SD cards, each with its distribution.
How to download and install the LibreELEC microSD
Download LibreELEC is very easy: we can do it on its official website or in the "Downloads" section of the Raspberry Pi. Download the latest stable version, not beta trial versions.
Distributions appear in image format (extension .img or .iso), but are commonly compressed (with .rar, .tar, .gz extension) download once we need to download. Pay attention and download the corresponding Raspberry Pi model version. For example, if you have Raspberry Pi 3, download "Rp3".
Once downloaded, we will unpack and write a micro SD card. First, the microSD card is inserted into the computer, through its slot, or if you have an SD slot with the adapter.
Eyes, record the card with the distribution image It's not as easy as dragging files. If our operating system is Mac OS X, we need the Apple Pi Baker program and if we use Windows, we will do the same with Win32DiskImager.
Entering the card, we open the corresponding program and check to select SD recording. It is important to look carefully, or we could record it on other storage devices, by formatting errors.
Once we have selected the SD, click on the IMG file and look for the distribution image file. If both of them are notified, a warning will appear that will erase everything on the card. We accept and the recording will begin. This procedure takes a few minutes to get the card out.
1. Connect everything
It's time to assemble everything and make connections. In the case of punching casings carefully, because the holes are accurately done, so we must be patient and step by step.
Once mounted, the raspberry HDMI cable on the TV connects with the keyboard and mouse on two USB ports and finally enters the microSD card. If you are using cable with the internet, connect the Ethernet cable. We say: do it carefully, Raspberry Pi is small and we can force it to break it.
We turn on the television and connect Raspberry Pi to the current one. On TV we need to select HDMI access to see what happens in our small computer.
2. Initial basic configuration
We will see the white text in the black background and, finally, LibreELEC interface, in English. The distribution will detect Wi-Fi networks. Select us and enter your password.
In English, it can also be changed to other languages, such as Spanish. To do this, click on the gear icon and then follow the route: Interface Settings> Regional> Languages.
Do not worry, if you only see the English text in the beginning. Distribution is by default only in English, so when you get updates on the internet you need to wait a few minutes.
3. Add-on installation
Additives The main assets of the Code are functionality and versatility. It's all about sports, series, movies, music, programs, customizations, news, world channels … We can install them in different ways, as we will see below.
From official repository codes
In the main menu, click on add-ons. Here we see the installed add-on lists. Click on the upper left box that will take you to the additional Kodi Installation menu. We've selected "Install from Store".
Now we can find add-ins we want to install. You will see categories categorized: images, music, programs, personalization options … and within the alphabet. For example, we will install YouTube in the add-ons video.
Once installed, we let you install. The process will last for a couple of minutes and continue to navigate through the Code.
When finished, a pop-up window will appear on the top right side, and your add-on will be notified when it's installed correctly. From that moment on you will be shown in the Add-ons menu.
From zip files
To use this option, we must first allow third-party installation. To do this, we went to the gear icon and from here: System settings> Add-ons and to turn on static sources.
Now we repeat the previous point process, we will go to the main menu of the Code and we click on the left column for add-ons. We will see all our add-ons listed again.
Now click on the open box to access the add-ons installation menu. From the list of options we have seen, click on "Install from a .zip file".
At this time, the browser opens, we can access the .zip format files in the hard drive. We've flagged it and it will be installed like the previous one.
4. Apps for controlling your smartphone in your mobile device
After the initial setup, the keyboard and mouse will be very comfortable, forget about these devices and it is perfect Use the Raspberry Pi app on your mobile phone.
To do this, Settings> Services> Control and activate the option "Leave remote control over HTTP" option.
From there, we can install Kore on our official Kodi control system for iOS and Android devices. There are other applications, but this one is official, it has a good interface and is very complete.
If you install the app and have Raspberry, your device will detect it through Wi-Fi and you can use it.
With Kore you can control the code, watch what you are playing, change playlist, see your library, enter the IMDB, enter YouTube videos, enter text, change the application interface, among other things. options
