The chaotic construction of exclusive units means that today we are not safe to treat cancer, stroke or heart attacks in hospitals in Poland – said Bartosz Arłukowicz, MEP of the European Coalition, former Health Minister of TVN24. He accused the government of not being prepared to deal with the epidemic.
Since the outbreak in Poland began, coronavirus infection has been confirmed in more than 941,000 people, of whom more than 15,500 have died. The highest number of infections – more than 20,000 a day – occurred in the first fortnight of November. In the second half of the month, the highest death balances of infected people are recorded.
Arłukowicz: The biggest sin was not having a decision to create “white” hospitals
On Friday, Agata Adam was a guest on TVN24’s “One for One” session. Bartosz Arłukowicz was a member of the European Coalition for Europe, a former Minister of Health. Among other things, he spoke of a “long list of government failures” to tackle the epidemic.
– The biggest sin of the government, which has been dragged behind for several months, has been the decision not to create a network called white hospitals, which are the hospitals with the greatest protection against viruses – said the MEP.
Such hospitals would “help people with non-COVID-19 diseases because those who do not currently have access to hospitals have become infected.”
– Because the construction of hidden rooms in hospitals is not chaotic and uncommon, we do not currently have a hospital in Poland that is protected against the virus, as cancer, stroke and heart disease are safe. (…) We will monitor the consequences of these failures during these months – added the TVN24 guest.
“Prime Minister buys his time for another two weeks”
Another “big mistake of the government” that Arłukowicz spoke of was that “schools were not prepared for the return of children.” – The decision to return was unwise (in September – ed.) – he assessed.
– The Prime Minister has said that today we are accumulating winter holidays, that all students will have them at the same time. Thus, the prime minister buys himself time, another two weeks, to keep the children at home – said the former minister.
And the children – he added – “are not waiting for the winter break, they are waiting for the return of school.” – The role of the government is to prepare these schools for the gradual return of children. And that is not happening now – said the MEP.
