Criciúma records an increase of more than 120% in dengue cases and takes action this Saturday

Criciúma has an active case of dengue, imported from another municipality, and 42 outbreaks of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, an increase of more than 120% over the same period last year. The data raises the risk of disease in the city. Concerned about the situation, the Zoonosis Control Center, a body linked to the Municipal Government, is promoting an “D” awareness day on the subject this Saturday, the 21st. The event takes place from 8:00 to 12:00 in the Praça Nereu Ramos.

Professionals and agents to deal with endemic diseases will be in the tent, installed in it, providing guidance and clarifying the doubts of the population. “We will show you how to avoid the proliferation of mosquitoes with objects and larvae. The aim is to address this issue in a very simple way,” said the head of the Dengue Control Program. Simone Cristina da Cruz.

The ‘D’ day is usually celebrated on the penultimate Saturday of November. This year, due to the growth of a mosquito that transmits dengue, zika virus, chikungunya and yellow fever, especially in neighboring municipalities, control actions are being stepped up, such as placing 567 traps divided into 157 strategic points.

“Today we have 42 appearances. Last year, there were only 19 at a time. We also have an active case, but the patient was not hired here. It was contaminated elsewhere. That’s why we’re working on different fronts to keep the mosquito from breeding, ”Simon said.

Most of the appearances are concentrated in two neighborhoods of Criciuma. “We have 16 appearances in Nossa Senhora da Salete, and 13 in Prosperia. Other cases are in other places, ”he said.
