First solar installation in the country, inaugurated at Malbaza, with a capacity of 7 MW



(Agence Ecofin) – Prime Minister Nigerian Brigi Rafini and Minister of Energy Amina Moumouni inaugurated the first solar installation in the country. Nigelec, the information provided by the electric company.

With 7 MW capacity, Malbaza's village infrastructure was established in the center of the country. Its implementation is $ 24.7 million and its production will be made up of 30 thousand houses in the Madaoua, Malbaza and Konni departments.

The construction of Malbaza solar installations is a 2021 installation of solar installations and has a capacity of 100 MW.

Other facilities include Dosso (10 MW), Maradi (20 MW), Niamey-Gorou Band (30 MW) and another Malbaza Plant, with a capacity of 13 MW. The project also includes 22 MW hybrid and solar thermal development under the direction of Agence Française de Développement.

As a reminder, 20 million Nigerians only have 15% to get electricity. The country has an installed capacity of 140 MW and imports more than half of the energy consumed in Nigeria.
