Today, the Serbian Orthodox Church and its faithful celebrate the feast dedicated to St. Nectarios of Egin, one of the greatest healers in the history of Christianity.

Saint Nectarios is an theologian and orthodox saint, born Anastasia Kefalas. He was born on October 1, 1846 in Thrace into a poor family. After his primary education, he moved to Constantinople and in 1866 moved to the city of Chios, where he worked as a teacher. After ten years of service, he became a monk and took the name Lazarus.

In 1877, he received the monastic vow as Nectarios, and the rank of hierodeacon. He lived in Athens for several years, where he graduated from the Faculty of Theology in Athens in 1885. The following year, in 1886, he was ordained a priest.

In the same year he attained the rank of archimandrite, and became secretary of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. In 1889, he was elected Metropolitan of Pentapolis.

Nectarios received the ministry of preacher in Greece in 1892 and the period 1894-1908. he directed a theological school in Athens. After his retirement, he lived in the Trinity Monastery of Aegina, after which he named himself Aeginski.

He died in Athens on November 8, 1920, of prostate cancer. He was canonized in 1961 by the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Most interestingly, several healing miracles occurred on his relics.

The relics of this saint are in the Tumane monastery near Golubac, and two prayers are also said to this saint, which are supposed to help in the treatment of diseases.

According to the belief, by praying to St. Nectarius, many believers managed to find salvation that healed people with cancer, paralysis, Parkinson’s disease, kidney, eye and brain problems.

Some miracles have also been reported for rescuing people from various accidents – traffic, shipwrecks, as well as shark attacks and snake bites.

People with cancer and other malignant diseases ask for the help of St. Nectarians of Aegina the most. He performed miracles, as has been said, throughout his life, but they became especially visible after his death.

Today it is also famous for the Oncology Institute of the Clinical Center of Serbia, which is believed that St. Nectar of Egin can cure cancer.

This is why believers today do not work hard and devote their day to prayers for health, in which they must mention the name of St. Nectarius of Aegina.
