Covid-19 was first treated with plasma in Slovenia, and the patient's condition improved

The Institute of Transfusion Medicine of the Republic of Slovenia confirmed to STA that a few days ago the first two units of plasma were given to treat an obvious patient. Later, the Infectious Diseases and Fever Diseases Clinic of the Medical Center of the University of Ljubljana informed them that Covide had improved the clinical condition of the disease after this type of treatment.

Since the beginning of July, 280 blood samples have been taken from the Institute of Transfusion Medicine. in people who had plasma covid-19.

For the treatment of human patients, we have prepared 80 hyperimmune plasma units with sufficient so-called neutralizing antibodies. However, they explained to STA that they have not yet conducted the necessary tests for all the units detected.

Plasma therapy has a 100-year history of treating infectious diseases such as polio, measles, paper, as well as pre-vaccine flu. Recently, plasma has also been used to help patients with Ebola and Mersa, which also causes coronaviruses. Therefore, in some parts of the world, patients in the covida-19 phase of the hospital have already begun to receive plasma from patients who have cured the disease. In particular, they wanted pre-morbid plasma antibodies to neutralize the patient’s virus so that it would not spread further, and in this way make it easier for the patient to overcome covid-19.

However, different studies have not yet provided a uniform answer regarding the safety and efficacy of plasma therapy.
