Investors in Motor Sich begin arbitration proceedings with Ukraine

Lawyers WilmerHale, DLA Piper and Bird & amp were hired by Ukrainian authorities to arbitrate $ 3.5 billion.

The interests of Chinese investors in Motor Sich in international arbitration against Ukraine will be represented by the three most reputable law firms in the world. This is posted on the DCH team website.

“WilmerHale, DLA Piper and three international law firms at Motor Sich PJSC (partners of the DCH group in the development of the Ukrainian aircraft industry) will help Chinese investors with their investment dispute to recover $ 3.5 billion in damages from the Ukrainian state. Arzinger will act in international arbitration,” he said.

These companies are leaders in the field of international arbitration. And among their partners are, in particular, former FBI Director Robert Mueller and the husband of former California attorney Douglas Emhoff – Kamala Harris, who may take over as U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

Gary Bourne, President of the WilmerHale International Arbitration Practice Group, has a strong reputation as an ideologue of the global concept of investor and investment protection.

As a reminder, on September 4, Chinese investors in Motor Sich reported the investment dispute to the Ministry of Justice. The actions of the Ukrainian authorities in view of their assets are seen as an attempt to expropriate their investments, which is contrary to the 1992 Agreement on Investment Promotion and Mutual Protection between Ukraine and China.

In 2016, Chinese investors acquired the corporate rights to Motor Sich, but to date they have not been able to dispose of the property completely because government agencies have blocked the company’s activities.
