The Archdiocese of Maracaibo repudiated lewd acts of priest against a 12-year-old girl
On Wednesday, November 28, the Archdiocese of Maracaibo presented a press release in which he dismissed the lewd acts of the priest, Iván Merino Padial, of Spanish origin and belonging to the María Inmaculada church, against a 12-year-old girl.
In the text, read by the auxiliary bishop, Archbishop Ángel Caraballo, announced the excommunication of Merino Padial, who also will not exercise any type of office in the Catholic church, neither in Venezuela nor in any part of the world, as detailed.
Monsignor Caraballo apologized to the relatives of the victim and the Catholic community of Zulia and requested that the relevant authorities be in charge of the case.
The priest was arrested at night hours last Saturday, November 24, for maintaining an intimate relationship with a 12-year-old girl, police officials said.
He went on to say that residents of the El Naranjal urbanization, where the María Inmaculada church is located, knew, "not for sure", what happened, in his own words.
"We suspected some things, but it was all a mystery, since Father Padial was a little more than a year visiting the house of the girl and had a very familiar relationship with her mother," they said, while asking to protect their identity.
