Netflix has hired NBC co-chair of NBC’s script programming as the new head of comedy.

Bela Bajaria, a global head of television, told Pakosta that it will develop current programming and shows on Netflix’s script list of comedies, including live action and adult animation, as well as a stand-up and comedy format group.

Pakosta was considered first in charge, following the departure of Jane Wiseman last month, having previously worked with Bajaria and arrived with strong comedy credentials, among others. Good place and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

After nearly a decade with NBCUniversal, he left his current role, joining EVA in 2011 to develop the Universal Television comedy directed by Bajaria.

“I’ve spent many hours watching it as a fan, and now I’m incredibly excited to see Bela and Netflix join the original series team,” Pakosta said. “Comedy is my favorite playground, and I can’t wait for people to collaborate with all the similar creators to make people laugh – we really need to!”

Sutara …

Pakosta’s appointment has been a mess for a few months, both on Netflix and on NBC. It was Wiseman’s departure earlier in the year as Bajaria was named global head of television, and Cindy Holland was among those who left the original chairman of the original content after 18 years in the stream. Shortly afterwards, Netflix’s original vice president of Channing Dungey followed suit, taking over the new position of president of Warner Bros. Television Group.

The high-level execution movement is CEO Ted Sarandos, who was named CEO of Netflix in July, seeks to streamline the content team and increase the company’s subscriber base.

Netflix has recently introduced a new look to the levels of Bajaria’s top authorities as part of this broad change.

… take it out of the pan

Pakosta’s situation behind NBCUniversal is not so confusing, with non-secretary chief Meredith Ahr coming out in recent weeks as former chief Paul Telegdy, who left a huge US studio in August after allegations of misconduct.

At the same time, NBCU is currently restructuring its operations to focus on newborn Peacock streamer, Susan Rovner Warner Bros. the former television director has recently appointed his new head of entertainment. Paul Telegdy has also left.
